Four Hands Embroidery Collaborates with DaeQuan Alexander Collier for EFA SHIFT Exhibition

May 2025

Four Hands Embroidery was honored to collaborate with fellow artist DaeQuan Alexander Collier for (Re)assemblage: The 2025 EFA SHIFT Cohort Exhibition. This project blended fine art and custom embroidery, highlighting how digital embroidery can be an integral part of contemporary sculpture and storytelling.

Collier approached our Brooklyn-based embroidery studio with a thoughtful concept: a sketch of an off-kilter church pew, an excerpt of text, and a carefully selected piece of fabric. His vision was clear yet open to transformation through the collaborative process. Using our expertise in custom embroidery, we embroidered his chosen text onto the fabric with precision, ensuring every stitch carried the weight and intention of his words.

Once completed, the embroidered textile became the focal point for upholstering the backrest of the church pew. In the final sculpture, the embroidery was not merely decorative—it became a structural and emotional anchor, uniting text, texture, and form. This type of customization reflects the versatility of digital embroidery, capable of enhancing not just garments but also furniture, installations, and large-scale art projects.

DaeQuan Alexander Collier, a Bronx-born artist and writer, uses his practice to document, respond to, and reimagine the complexities of the human experience. His inclusion in the EFA SHIFT Cohort is a testament to his dedication to pushing boundaries in material and meaning.

Founded in 1998 as a program of The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, the EFA Studio Program provides affordable private studio spaces in NYC, fosters career development, and promotes public engagement with artists’ work. Its cooperative community environment encourages the open exchange of ideas between artists, curators, critics, and the public—supporting the positive influence of art on society.

At Four Hands Embroidery, collaborations like this one demonstrate our commitment to working across disciplines, whether for brand activations, personal projects, or large-scale exhibitions. While we are best known for on-site embroidery events, corporate customization, and custom embroidery Brooklyn clients love, our studio also thrives on unique, one-of-a-kind artistic partnerships.

From clothing to conceptual installations, our work proves that embroidery can go far beyond traditional applications. For artists, designers, and brands seeking to customize with depth, precision, and meaning, Four Hands Embroidery offers the skills, tools, and collaborative spirit to bring any vision to life.
